Who Are the Tri-City Crime Stoppers?

Tri-Cities Crime Stoppers has been an active part of the crime prevention efforts in the Tri-Cities since 1985. No matter how well organized, equipped or energetic a law enforcement agency may be, it cannot function effectively without the cooperation and involvement of the community. Crime Stoppers has proven itself to be one of the foremost community involvement programs in the world. It has solved over 815,000 felony cases and recovered over five billion dollars in property and narcotics around the world. Tri-Cities Crime Stoppers supports programs in several area High Schools and Middle Schools as well.

Tri-Cities Crime Stoppers, a 501 c 3 non-profit organization, has contributed to that total by assisting in the apprehension of over 990 suspects, clearing over 3,200 felony cases and recovering over $750,000 in narcotics and stolen property since 1985.

Crime Stoppers is a unique cooperative effort between law enforcement, concerned citizens and the media, all working together to reduce crime and improve the quality of life within our communities. Crime Stoppers programs through its police coordinator is an investigative body working with citizens as one crime-fighting unit.

There are people who have information which could solve major crimes and locate felon fugitives. Either because of fear or apathy many people do not come forward with what they know. Crime Stoppers is an alternative to 911, working on the assumption that is some cases, people who would not otherwise become involved would do so if they felt safe and/or were motivated. Crime Stoppers offers this opportunity in two ways;

  • Guarantees anonymity of the caller.
  • Offers a cash reward.

The Community - Private citizens are represented through a local civilian Board of Directors that governs the non-profit and self-sustaining organization and raises the funds necessary for its operation.

The Media - Publicizes a special case or wanted person through use of newspaper, television, cable television, Internet, and other media. This information increases the awareness of the community and generates information that leads to solving of crimes and apprehension of criminals.

Law Enforcement - Crime Stoppers office's take the anonymous tips, work with the media, investigate and/or follow up each tip.
